Please update your various devices/systems.
There have been some recent challenges to the security of Windows and the Chrome browser:
- A Windows Wifi takeover attack can allow a hacker access to your computer through Wi-Fi without your knowledge or interaction.
- Chrome has patched 4 zero-day attacks in just two weeks.
Most devices will automatically update themselves, or will prompt you to update them when new patches are released. However, sometimes these automatic updates don’t occur. We suggest that you check them and update your systems ASAP, if necessary, to protect yourself.
These days, systems make it very easy to update themselves. Failing to update your system is like getting a better door lock and leaving it in the box inside your house.
This article has instructions for updating the most popular operating systems and browsers…

Please update your major devices regularly to remain secure.
However, please be careful. There are fake “updates” that could install ransomware on your home computers. If you are uncertain about an update, please contact HDF or your own computer support person.
The most recent security challenges have been especially disturbing. Microsoft has discovered that there is a flaw in their Wi-Fi software that could allow a malicious actor to gain access to your system with your privileges when you are connected to an unsecure Wi-Fi device (cafe, airport, etc.). You should waste no time updating Windows to protect yourself from such an attack. Also, Google Chrome has discovered a total of 4 zero-day vulnerabilities in their browser in just 2 weeks. Fortunately, all of them have been patched… as long as you are running the most recent version.
Should I upgrade to Windows 11?
Not if your computer is a business computer supported by HDF. If you are a client of HDF’s, please do *not* let your computer upgrade to Windows 11. We are aware of the Windows 10 deadline and will be upgrading your computer for you before then. You will need to upgrade or replace your home/personal computer before October 14, 2025.
Update Windows
Updating Windows just requires regular reboots, perhaps once or twice a week, provided that you select “Update and Restart” instead of just “Restart”. You should *always* select “Update and Restart” if the option is available. If you would like to update manually, please refer to this article.
